Summer Coaching Waiver Period Begins June 15

The Saint Paul Public Schools Athletics Department is opening the summer coaching waiver period starting Monday, June 15.

The summer coaching waiver period allows coaches to contact athletes and schedule practices and workouts during the summer months when there is no school.

The summer coaching waiver period will consist of two phases. The first phase will include outdoor activities from June 15 - August 6. The second phase will consist of indoor activities from June 22 - August 6.

Due to the continued presence of COVID-19, a variety of guidelines, expectations and daily procedures will be implemented to keep all coaches and athletes safe. These include hand-washing requirements, COVID-19 screening questionnaires, enforced coach-to-athlete ratio limits and sanitation recommendations, among many other protocols.

All athletes must register with their coaches before being allowed to participate. Please contact your athletic director with questions about  registering for the summer coaching waiver period. Please note, failure to follow  the expectations, procedures and guidelines as outlined by SPPS  will result in the student athlete being immediately dismissed from the program with no refund issued.

Thank you for supporting your child and Saint Paul Public Schools.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

CELEBRATIONWelcome to St Paul Central! We are excited to have you on the team and become a part of the rich history of Minutemen Athletics. Central High School encourages every student to participate in athletics. The Minnesota State High School League and the St Paul Public Schools feels membership in any activity is a privilege and demands responsibility. All athletes are expected to follow the eligibility requirements listed below. If an athlete does not follow all requirements, their eligibility may be jeopardized.
    1. ACADEMICS- All athletes must make academics their first priority. Academic eligibility requirements can be found below.
    2. STUDENT CONDUCT- At all times student-athletes represent their team(s) and Central High School. If a student-athlete shows bad judgment or poor behavior they risk their position on the team. Student-athletes should be aware of the following policies that pertain to student conduct:
      1. A student who is dismissed or suspended from school will not be eligible to participate in the next contest until reinstatement occurs
      2. At Central, a student must be in school by 10:00am and have written authorization for their absence. Also, a student must attend school for at least four hours to participate in athletics after school. A student who is marked unexcused the day of the contest will not be allowed to participate.
      3. The Minnesota State High School League and Central High School expect all athletes to remain FREE of illegal chemicals (alcohol, all forms of tobacco and any illegal drugs). This includes use, possession, buying, selling, or distributing any controlled substances, including steroids. Failure to abide by this rule will result in the consequences stated in Article 19 of the Minnesota State High School League General Rules.
    • LETTER AWARDS- Central High School Varsity “C” letter awards are awarded upon recommendation of a varsity head coach at the end of the sport’s season.
**Here is a brief message from the Minnesota State High School League for Parents and Students for before the season starts. StudentsMSHSL.
