Summer Coaching Waiver Period Begins June 15
The Saint Paul Public Schools Athletics Department is opening the summer coaching waiver period starting Monday, June 15.
The summer coaching waiver period allows coaches to contact athletes and schedule practices and workouts during the summer months when there is no school.
The summer coaching waiver period will consist of two phases. The first phase will include outdoor activities from June 15 - August 6. The second phase will consist of indoor activities from June 22 - August 6.
Due to the continued presence of COVID-19, a variety of guidelines, expectations and daily procedures will be implemented to keep all coaches and athletes safe. These include hand-washing requirements, COVID-19 screening questionnaires, enforced coach-to-athlete ratio limits and sanitation recommendations, among many other protocols.
All athletes must register with their coaches before being allowed to participate. Please contact your athletic director with questions about registering for the summer coaching waiver period. Please note, failure to follow the expectations, procedures and guidelines as outlined by SPPS will result in the student athlete being immediately dismissed from the program with no refund issued.
Thank you for supporting your child and Saint Paul Public Schools.
We are excited that your incoming 9th grader is interested in joining the Central Cross Country team. On our team we strive to establish a team culture that values hard work, dedication, community, and academic achievement.
Our team is led by a trio of head coaches. Tim Shasky, Morgan Wiechmann, and Jesse Kwakenat bring years of experience as runners, coaches, and teachers to our team. All three of our coaches teach at Central High School. Please feel free to contact any of them directly at:
We understand that the landscape of MSHSL summer and fall sports will be impacted by COVID-19. At this time, we are planning as if all elements of the season will go on as usual. As Governor Walz and the MSHSL make updates to our season/schedule, we will update our team website at centralcrosscountry.com. Please check there regularly for the latest updates.
Captain’s practices are traditionally held throughout the summer Monday through Friday beginning at 9:00am. They are optional and start on Monday, June 15th, 2020 and continue until the first official team practice on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Central HS at 9:00am. We also plan a 3-day overnight “Marathon Weekend” camp at Willow River State Park at the beginning of August. This is an excellent way for incoming freshmen to meet some of their new teammates and is open to anyone interested in joining the Cross Country team. Please contact the 2020Cross Country captains for details about summer practices and Marathon Weekend.
